The Capricorn Zodiac Sign Personality

Ambitious, and always having their eyes on the prize, the Capricorn zodiac sign is disciplined and hardy. Their drive and their desire for success often makes them great leaders. Capricorns are goal setters and plan makers; they tirelessly labour towards their desired outcome, and stick to their plans and calculations. They are patient too; meaning that if it takes a little longer to get where they want to go, they are not afraid of putting in the work.

Usually, what they crave is a challenge - not something that can be won in a single day. Commitment is needed of them in order to achieve their tasks; and they are ready for it. Many Capricorn zodiac signs are serious types; they don’t take things lightly, but they may have a dry humor about them as well - catching most people around them off guard. Though they love to achieve, most are not boastful or loud about their many achievements. Instead, they are the strong silent types. They may not be in the spotlight, but they will often be the people in power when it comes to making decisions for the future.

Capricorn Zodiac Sign in Greek Mythology

Since the zodiac constellations were first cataloged by astronomers in ancient Greece, many of the stories that are associated with them come their mythology.

The Babylonians and Constellation Capricorn

The constellation Capricorn is one of the oldest zodiac signs - and there are records of it dating back from the Middle Bronze Age (2100–1550 BC). The Babylonians catalogued the constellation as a “goat-fish”, and associated it with the god Ea, or Enki as he later became known. Enki was the god of water, mischief, magic, intelligence and creation, and he was often depicted wearing a crown with horns, symbolizing the sacred. He is credited with the creation of the earth as well as mankind.

Amalthea and Constellation Capricorn

In Greek Mythology, Amalthea (sometimes known as Adamanthea), who is sometimes represented as a goat, is an ancient goddess who purportedly became the foster-mother of Zeus. Cronus the titan, father of Zeus, ate his children soon after their birth. In order to save her child, Rhea tricked Cronus into taking a stone wrapped like a baby, while she smuggled her true child to Amalthea. Amalthea took the baby Zeus to her mountain in Crete, where in order to hide the sounds of baby Zeus’s crying, she asked the nearby warriors to create noise. As a baby, Zeus, playing with one of her horns, accidentally breaks one, and it turns into a cornucopia.

Pan and Constellation Capricorn

Another myth associates the god Pan with Capricorn, a satyr who is god of the wild. He battles with Typhon, a giant serpent alongside his brother. In order to escape, he turns half his body into that of a fish and dives into the sea to swim away.
